A Letter From The Field
Jon is a member of our sending church, Redeemer. His family recently moved to Moldova to help plant churches and they are excited for us to come and work with them.
This is Jon’s letter:
Like most places on earth, Moldova needs gospel-centered followers of Jesus living in grace-saturated family with a shared mission of making disciples and loving the community they are in. The need in Moldova is especially great. Having read Sasha and Sara’s previous updates, you know this. While Moldova is a beautiful country with generous and welcoming people, many Moldovans struggle under poverty, human trafficking, fatherlessness, and corruption. We believe that the gospel in the hands of God’s church can transform a society.
That’s why we moved to Moldova in November. That’s why we are eager to have Sasha, Sara, and Adela join us as soon as they can. We came to Moldova so that I can teach at a Christian university that trains Moldovan and Central Asian pastors, church planters, entrepreneurs, and social workers and so that we can help in strengthening church planting movements in Moldova. As we acclimate to the culture and learn Romanian, I have already been able to teach a few classes at the university and we have been getting involved a new church plant, Providence Church, in the capital city. By God’s grace, we have also been starting relationships with people who God puts in our path. For example, we were recently able to invite two friends Michelle met at our local market to our home for a meal. It is our hope that we can bless these new friends by loving them genuinely and that we can encourage them to the more abundant life that Jesus offers.
We are eager to have the Pascals join us in Moldova so that we can help establish communities of light in Moldova together. In God’s sovereignty, we were already able to practice living in community in Bellingham for the sake of showing off God’s gracious work in the Gospel. God placed us on the same street as part of the same church where we were able to disciple one another and reach out to our friends in love. We hope to do the same thing in Moldova by living as gospel-centered followers of Jesus in the same apartment complex as a grace-saturated family that makes disciples and loves our community. We firmly believe that these communities of light can multiply and form churches that will spread and transform Moldova for good. If you aren’t already doing so, we hope that you’ll consider partnering with the Pascals and investing in God’s work in Moldova.
